Gov’t allots P68M for Talisay drainage system
The national government has allotted P68 million for the construction of drainage systems in Barangays Poblacion, Cansojong, and Tanke in Talisay City.
Cebu First District Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas announced the development during a meeting with Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas, officials of the three barangays, and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) second engineering district head Engr. Leslie Anthony Molina.
Of the appropriated amount, he said, P30 million has been set aside for Barangay Poblacion, P20 million for Barangay Cansojong, and P18 million for Barangay Tanke.
The barangays are pilot areas of the city’s drainage project.
The congressman said the drainage projects would help address the flooding problems of the three neighboring coastal barangays.
“Ang mga creeks puno na og lapok. Kaya ra man sa DPWH (second engineering district) ang mag-dredging. I told DPWH to coordinate with Talisay City Engineer Gamaliel Vicente Jr. about it,” he added.
The construction of the drainage systems is projected to start next year.
The city had completed the drainage master plan in 2008 during the administration of then mayor Socrates Fernandez.
Samsam said the implementation of the drainage systems will be based on the master plan. But he said it needs to be modified to incorporate the changes and developments in the past years.
“It’s a start, the drainage master plan is for the whole city, if ato ma-incorporate ang first three barangays, ang flow of the other areas of the city it’s a good start. Problema nalang ang funding,” Gullas added.
