An Epicurean Journey to the Land of the Rising Sun
In line with the celebration of its 49th anniversary this August, one of Cebu’s well-loved bakeshops is highlighting a new offering that gifts the month’s birthday celebrants with free mini-birthday cakes.
For all days in August, except on August 23, Anita’s Bakeshop is giving minibirthday cakes to the first two birthday celebrant-customers of the day as a way of thanking Cebuanos for their continuing patronage.
The offering is inspired by a tradition that was set by the bakeshop’s founder Anita Cabinian. Prior to opening the first Anita’s Bakeshop, Cabinian taught Math at the University of San Jose Recoletos. She discovered her love of baking from her aunt. Initially, she applied what she learned from her aunt as a hobby, which eventually led to the opening of one of Cebu’s longestrunning bakeshops.
The month’s free birthday cake offering is part of Anita’s Bakeshop’s lead-up highlights to its 50th anniversary next year. More details are at Anita’s Bakeshop’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Diners may now take an epicurean journey to the Land of the Rising Sun with the newly-opened SUSHISAKE which opened its doors last month at Radisson Blu Cebu. Elegantly nestled in an intimate and relaxed setting at the upper lobby of the hotel, the 21-seater contemporary restaurant offers a collection of premium sakes, and the finest selection of sushi and sashimi, all delicately prepared in traditional Edomae style.
A refreshing combination of traditional and modern approaches to Japanese cuisine, SUSHISAKE’’s menu features Chef Jefferson “Jeff” Yalung’s savory infusion of specialty rolls and rich signature sauces and marinades.
The hotel’s resident sushi and sashimi specialty chef, Chef Jeff honed his skills in a culinary career spanning over 10 years as sushi chef for international hotel brands in Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. Having mastered over 50 sushi specialties, Chef Jeff welcomes all opportunities to create even more. Guests seeing him in action at the restaurant’s open kitchen may request the chef to customize sushi rolls according to their liking.
The restaurant’s design and aesthetics imbue elements behind the preparation of its menu: waves of the sea, a fishnet, rice grain, and the distinctive chopsticks-inspired lights. Must-try specialty dishes are the Dynamite Sushi Roll, the Surf & Turf Roll, the Dragon Roll, and the Special California Roll.
SUSHISAKE welcomes guests and diners from 6 to 11 p.m. daily. Reservations are encouraged by calling (63 32) 402 9900 or through email at reservations.cebu@radisson.com.
