Employment program for senior high grads

The Cebu IT/BPM Organization (CIB.O) has partnered with the Cebu City government in providing employment for senior high school graduates.

CIB.O managing director Wilfredo Sa-a Jr., announced yesterday that the joint project will be unveiled in the next few days.

The purpose, according to Sa-a is to maximize the senior high graduates by the end of this school year, to provide them ready employment especially in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

Earlier, the Cebu City government through the Cebu Economic and Business Unit (C.E.B.U.) announced that Cebu City has the most comprehensive talent development programs such as the launching of the Learning English Application for Pinoys (LEAP) among 27 Senior High Schools in Cebu City under the City School Board, DepEd, DICT and CIB.O; Partnership of Apas National High School with Convergys to provide contact center training for students who passed LEAP; One Classroom, One Contact Center, One Barangay program; Information caravan in the barangays.

SMP Plus Training for Teachers – an academe-industry forum to improve the quality of graduates; funding from CHED in partnership with IBPAP/Asia Pacific College/NICP and CIB.O ; and The City of Cebu provided funding or P750,000 for this 2017 IT Transformation Summit.

According to Sa-a, a concrete and more comprehensive program is being formulated focusing on the employment placement for Senior High graduates,

Meanwhile, the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) head Fidel Magno said instead of taking glamorous or four-year degree courses, senior high students should take vocational and technical courses as these are considered reservoir of employment generation today.

Skilled workers with technical backgrounds now have bigger chances of earning more here and abroad, and the demand is not just seasonal. In fact, it is consistently increasing.

Magno reminded high school and senior high students to align the courses that they plan to take to the current demand and industry's need here and abroad.
