Do you agree with the proposal to grant retirement benefits to elected barangay officials in Cebu City?

- Compiled by Apple Grace C. Danuco Correspondent

I think it is reasonable to grant retirement benefits, not only to elected brgy officials but to all retirees of all sorts of occupation. Simply because it would be just to give back for all the work and dedication an employee has done at the time of his or her service. But pertaining to the proposal, it is ideal since being a brgy official is still a job, and I myself consider it an occupation worthy to be given much appreciation. So I would agree to this one.

Yes, I agree because they deserve it considering all the work they've done for their barangays. Like what they say, "A great nation starts with a cooperating barangay."

Yes, I do agree with the proposal; however, they should prioritized those officials who have done well in providing public service and really deserves to be given this kind of benefit since I believed that they will be getting the money from the people’s taxes so it would be better if they choose those officials who had excelled during his/her years of service.

No, most of the time barangay officials stay for 9 years max. I am afraid that they will just do everything just to stay in position so they'll get bigger retirement benefits once they "retire". Plus they're already compensated well with their salaries - has the mandate of public service already been equated to more benefits, or was I deceived that they really want to "serve" above else?
