Casili eyes historic four-peat in 7th Alegado Cup

-

Casili is setting its sights on a record four-peat, while Tilhaong, Lamac and Garing are all set to defend their respective crowns in the 7th Mayor Teresa "Nene" P. Alegado Consolacion Fiesta Basketball Cup set to unwrap on September 9 at the the Consolacion Sports Complex.

The spirited Casili cagers will try to etch their names in stone as the first ever four-time champion in the SK Category A, while Tilhaong seeks back-to-back titles in the SK Category B, in the same way with Lamac and Garing in the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category A and B, respectively.

The SK division is open to players aged 18 to 21 years old, while the inter-barangay seniors is for 22-above ballers.

The introduction of the midget division or the 17under age group will surely to add flavor and excitement to the annual spectacle that is among the highlights of Consolacion's annual fiesta in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso on October 29.

The contenders from all 21 barangays comprising Consolacion will be divided into two brackets. They will play in a double round elimination format, with the top two teams per bracket advancing into the crossover semifinals. The top seeds will enjoy twice-to-beat incentives. The winners will then clash for the championship in a winnertake-all affair.

League commissioner Paul Alelu Flores, a former standout of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws who counts PBA superstar Arwind Santos among his prominent teammates during his UAAP days, expects the month-long tilt to draw huge interest among the aspiring hoopsters of Consolacion because of their fairytale run in the 1st Governor's Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament.

Bearing the 'Sarok Weavers' monicker, Consolacion dropped a bombshell when it knocked out the star-studded Mandaue City to clinch the North Division title. They lost in the battle for the overall crown though to the Minglanilla Archangels.

As in the past editions, this year's event has the allout support of Consolacion LGU under the flagship of Mayor Teresa Alegado. Actively involved in the organization and conduct of the tournament is sports committee chairman and Liga ng mga Barangay President Roger 'Roy' Linaboc alongside SB members Marilou P. Casul and Benjamin 'Boy' Tibon. —
