To address the eyesore caused by the pile of garbage along the streets in the city, the Cebu City government will launch its "Basura Ko, Obligasyon Ko" program this month.

In this program, the public will already be prohibited to throw their trash at the identified hotspot areas.

The Department of Public Services (DPS) will do the monitoring for an effective implementation of the program.

Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr. told The FREEMAN that they will schedule the collection of garbage in hotspot areas such as N. Bacalso Street, Cabreros, Barangay Lahug, among others, so that the public would throw the trash directly to the garbage trucks.

"Atong naobserbahan nga daghan kaayong basura nga naa sa kadalanan, unya ang mga taw wa sila'y oras kanus-a gyud ilabay ang basura. Pataka nalang og labay," he said.

Gabuya said those found violating will be sanctioned.

The Cebu City Transportation Office, Land Transportation Office and Cebu City Police Office would lead in the enforcement of the program.

"Sa akong nahibaw-an, naay pribado nga sakyanan ilahang i-dump didto, kuhaon nato ang plate number. Then, itawag namo sa LTO ug sa uban kay amo pasakahan og sumbong," Gabuya said.

The objectives of "Basura Ko, Obligasyon Ko" program is to educate the public not to throw their garbage anywhere.

"Karon gyud na buwana i-launch nato pero wala pa'y specific kay naghuwat pata sa sakyanan nga girenta," he added.

Gabuya hopes that by mid-month, the program will be implemented.

For the leasing of trucks, Bids and Awards Committee Head Ronaldo Malacora told The FREEMAN that the matter is still subject for public bidding.

He said the expected opening of bidding would be next month, since the Technical Working Group still has to publish it on papers that the city government will be holding a bidding for the leasing of garbage trucks.

"I-publish then i-schedule ug bidding kay ongoing paman ang procurement documents until such time mahumam na, diha na i-publish then maka-schedule nata ug bidding," Malacora said.

The City Council approved P55 million for the leasing of equipment which include 10 units of compactor trucks and 11 units of open dump trucks.

Under the conditions of the rental, each unit would be running 24 hours at the barangays to the transfer station.

These equipment would collect the garbage all over the city for 24 hours a day.
