New Talisay police chief to study Calizar murder
The new Talisay City Police Station chief has formally assumed the office yesterday saying that he is looking forward to serving Talisay constituents.
Incoming Police Chief Superintendent Jason Villamater was the former chief of Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and has been a member of Special Action Forces for the past 22 years.
He vowed to study the murder case of victim John Ronli Calizar, which is one of his priorities, aside from the fight against illegal drugs.
Outgoing Police Superintendent Emerson Dante will be assigned to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO) as the Chief of the Provincial Investigation Detective Management Branch (PIDMB). He said that his reassignment is a great help for his promotion.
Early morning yesterday, Dante accompanied by Cebu Provincial Police officials conducted the ceremonial activities for the turn-over of command to Villamater.
City Mayor Eduardo Gullas said he did not request a new police chief to man the city, but he said that he will trust Villamater.
“Ako siya gipahibawo nga iyang effort was not wasted,” Gullas said.
He said that he only wants the police to ensure the safety and peace and order in the city.
Meanwhile, Police Officer 3 Christopher Cesa of the Talisay police warned constituents to avoid trusting people whom they converse through telephone calls for there are a lot of prank calls nowadays.
Last Tuesday, two incidents involving prank calls got reported to their office.
Around 1 p.m. yesterday, a certain Ethyl Ayade 34, a resident of Bascon Street, Barangay Dumlog, went to the station and reported that a prank callerclaimed to be the New People’s Army (NPA) commander.
The caller demanded for P3,000 and the money be sent to an account.
The caller threatened to plant a bomb in her business establishment if she failed to follow his instructions.
Cesa said that they are still verifying reports about the presence of NPA in the city. According to intelligence reports, it was negative.
Hours later, a certain Jacquelene Dawa, 31, a resident of Barangay Lagang, Carcar City went to their station and reported that a certain “Jerry” from the office of Talisay City Councilor Socrates Fernandez ordered three pieces of lechon worth P6,000 each and asked to deliver it to Borromeo Beach in Barangay Pooc, Talisay.
However, when Dawa delivered the lechon in the area, no event was booked under Fernandez’s name.
Fernandez, for his part, told reporters that he received several reports that his name was used in illegal activities.
He is also planning to seek the assistance of the city’s police regarding those incidents.
Furthermore, he disclosed that there is no “Jerry” working in his office.
