A 42-year-old electrician who doubles as a habal-habal driver took his two daughters, aged seven and six, as “hostages” at Camella Homes in Barangay Lawaan, Talisay City yesterday morning.

In an interview, suspect George Pasaporte admitted he wants to be arrested by the authorities because there is allegedly a group of military men who wants him dead. To assure his safety, he wants to be arrested and stay behind bars.

And the fastest way he thought of accomplishing his objective is to take his two daughters as hostages.

“Gigukod ko sa mga military. Gusto ko magpapriso nalang unta para ma-safety ko. Karun kay dili man mupriso kay wala ko sala. Akong gikuha ako mga bata. Ari (jail) nalang ko,” he said.

Pasaporte’s 27-year-old common-law wife Arnie Jean Apellanes said she was shocked after seeing her husband holding a kitchen knife early morning.

She suspects that her husband may be suffering from nervous breakdown.

They have four children and have been together for seven years. Apellanes also denied her husband has been using illegal drugs.

She witnessed Pasaporte locking his two daughters at their comfort room.

Apellanes added that her husband requested her to call the police or else, he will harm and kill his daughters.

“Iya kong giingnan nga og dili ka manawag og pulis patyon ko ning mga bata. Gusto lagi nga magpapriso siya,” she said.

Immediately, the police arrived in the area and arrested Pasaporte and eventually locked him at the station’s custodial facility.

Police Officer 1 Janneth Marquez of the Talisay Women and Children Protection Desk clarified that Pasaporte only locked his daughters at their comfort room and did not commit any violence against them.

Hours later that afternoon, Pasaporte was released from detention since Apellanes refused to file a case against her husband.

Marquez recommended that Apellanes should bring her husband to the doctor to ensure the health condition of her husband.
