Biasong, Cansojong start hot in Talisay caging

Barangays Biasong and Cansojong kicked off their campaigns on a bright note in the seniors division of the 2017 Mayor Eddie Gullas Cup inter-barangay basketball tournament at the Talisay City Sports Complex.

Ian Sinangote dished out 23 points as Biasong outlasted Lagtang, 82-67, while John Morelo erupted for 29 points to lead Cansojong to a 90-85 victory over Tabunok.

Joel Bensig Jr. chipped in 19 markers, while Carlo Hernani and June Labrica had 26 points in between them for Biasong, which banked on a sizzling offensive in the final half to turn the tables on Lagtang.

Biasong trailed by five at halftime, 31-36, but outpointed Lagtang in the third, 28-17, then closed the match with a 23-14 run to come up with a 15-point romp.

On the other hand, Philip Geraldez scored 18 and Jade Restauro finished with 12 points for Cansojong, which was in control of the match since taking an early 23-20 lead.

In the juniors division, Pooc 1 bested Tangke, 6553, Poblacion hammered Pooc 2, 85-58, while Dumlog prevailed over Lagtang by 78-71 decision.

Riven Jan Briones and Rubino Singson Jr. connived for 29 points for Pooc 1, which detonated a devastatin­g 23-7 bomb in the third period to blow away Tangke.

Clyde Drexter Alpes charted 22 points, John Axl Lim added 21, while Michael John Abella scattered 15 points for Poblacion, which pounded Pooc 2 quarter after quarter resulting into a 27-point blowout.

Not to be outdone, Michael Tabay netted 18 points and Braer Obrero had 15 points as Dumlog left Lagtang groping for form since closing the first half with a 41-33 advantage.

Meanwhile, Cebu First District Rep. Gerald Anthony 'Samsam' Gullas, Jr. sparkled with 20 points to power the Talisay LGU to a 112-88 demolition of DYRT in their exhibition match spicing up the formal opening of the annual tournament last Sunday.
