PAGASA: Expect rain in the next few days
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) — Cebu said a low pressure area spotted off eastern Samar will bring rain in the region today until Wednesday.
The LPA caused the rain that brought flooding in low lying areas of Metro Cebu yesterday.
PAGASA-Cebu Officer-in-charge Alfredo Quiblat, Jr. said the heavy rains were brought about by thunderstorms that formed because of the LPA.
An LPA is described as a rain-inducing weather system that is characterized by cloudiness and rainshowers.
Quiblat, though, said there is a low chance for the LPA to intensify and develop into a tropical cyclone, but Cebu and other parts of the region should expect rain early this week.
PAGASA predicted that today until Wednesday there will be mostly cloudy skies with rains of ranging from light to moderate in intensity. He added that there may be occasional heavy rains if there are thunderstorms.
Quiblat said the LPA may also enhance the strength of the southwest monsoon or "habagat", which may also bring rain over the western section of the country.
He said that by Thursday, weather condition may return to “neutral”, as the LPA is predicted to dissipate or exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility. He said there may be sunny periods already and at times partly cloudy skies with drizzle or rains by then.
The public is advised to continue monitoring the weather advisories issued by PAGASA as significant changes in the weather pattern may still occur.
