CCPO pursues leads in lawyercouncilor ambush
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director, Senior Superintendent Joel Doria said that they have identified a person of interest and are following several leads in the shooting of Tuburan town councilor and lawyer Renante Dela Cerna.
Dela Cerna was shot at by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in Sitio Cadauhan, Barangay Talamban on Wednesday evening. Dela Cerna sustained four gunshot wounds, while the driver of the motorcycle he was riding on was hit in the back.
“May lead tayo na nakuha, mayroon na tayong person of interest. Ang ano nalang natin is kung ito na ba talaga, pinapavalidate na natin kasi may mga information tayo na na-gather. From there, nagkaroon tayo ng followup, may nakuha na tayong mukha, may nakuha na tayong detalye pero kulang pa rin,” said Doria.
He added that they need concrete evidence to solidify the case against the person of interest.
Doria said that they are still validating the information on that person and to check whether the person was indeed present in the area during the shooting.
An eyewitness was also able to provide police with the plate number of the motorcycle used, but police are still confirming this report as there is a possibility that the plate number could be fake.
The police are also in the process of checking the CCTV recordings in the area.
Doria said that they are looking at all possible motives and also reviewing past cases handled by Dela Cerna.
On the possibility that a task force will be formed to handle the case, Doria said they will look into it although he says there is no need.
“Tingnan natin kung magpo-form ng task force kasi wala tayong nakikitang dahilan para magtask force tayo,” said Doria.
