What, for you, is the importance of press freedom?

- Oliver Lape Staff Member

The freedom of the press is very important nowadays because it is the manifestation that the media is still practicing its moral purpose: to be the fourth estate. The media serves as the watchdog of the government. They make sure that the government is still doing its job. As martial law lurks back, it is the right time to check if press freedom is still working. We shall fight for it. We shall not let history to repeat itself.

Press freedom is important especially in a democratic country because it holds the citizen's opinion or comments of what is happening in the society. It can also be the platform to circulate news and information.

student Press freedom plays a significant role not just in the media society but especially for entire community. This is to show the people that what we do in the media industry, or what journalists do is not something EVERYONE can do. We have to man up to many challenges so we can deliver what the public deserves and what we, people of the press can do better our role as watchdogs of our society.

Press freedom is freedom of information. It is unbiased and factual, and it tells all sides of the story. Also, press freedom means transparency. It gives enlightenement to the citizens regarding the issues this country faces.
