Father facing child abuse, illegal detention charges

-

For allegedly threatening to kill his minor daughter and depriving her and her younger sister their liberty when he disallowed them from going out of their house, a 37-year-old father is now facing charges before the court.

Prosecutor II Misty Leah EscolarHupp found probable cause to have the accused, identified as a resident of Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, face trial for child abuse and slight illegal detention.

In an inquest proceeding, the father chose not to file a counter-affidavit to answer the allegations filed against him before the Cebu City Prosecutor's Office. Instead, he manifested to face the charges in court.

Hupp recommended a P80,000 bail for child abuse and P40,000 bail for slight illegal detention.

The FREEMAN withheld the names of the parties due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Per case information, the daughter, 14, alleged that at midnight last September 5, her father threatened to kill her and pointed a bolo at her.

Aside from that, she and her eightyear-old sister were allegedly allowed to go out of their house, their father allegedly depriving them of their liberty without any legal or justifiable cause.

The girl said that before the incident, while they were in the room, they heard their parents having an argument. Thereafter, she said, her father pointed a bolo at her and barred them from leaving.

The father was arrested by responding policemen.
