USC takes CESAFI football lead

-

The defending champion University of San Carlos grabbed the solo lead in the collegiate division of the 2017 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) football event at the Cebu City Sports Center, yesterday.

The Carolinians upended the University of Cebu, 3-0, to go up 3-0 in the standing.

After a scoreless first half, Marcus Congmon sneaked a goal in the 55th minute to give USC its first goal.

With that, USC captured the momentum as Miguel Kwan added another one in the 61st while Yves Caballero sealed their victory with a goal in the 65th.

USC started this season with a scoreless draw against the University of San Jose Recoletos before pulling off a 1-0 victory over University of Southern Philippines Foundation.

USC booters will try to improve to 4-0 as they take on their next assignment against University of the Visayas this Sunday.

Meanwhile, the match between University of the Visayas and USPF was halted yesterday because of unplayable field due to heavy rain. USPF was leading 1-0 at halftime before the downpour.

Tomorrow’s action will have defending boys champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu going up against USJ-R followed by USC-BED against USPF.—Caecent
