Training for brgy police starts

- — Mae

The Cebu City Police Office has started conducting seminar workshops for local barangay enforcers who will serve as force multipliers to curb illegal drugs and other forms of criminality.

The workshop, which will be held every Sunday, will be attended by force multipliers from the different barangays in Cebu City and the province.

Chief Inspector Christopher Navida, chief of City Intelligence Branch, said that the lectures are meant to help hone the skills of the force multipliers when it comes to intelligence gathering and also to educate them about their responsibilities.

Force multipliers are considered as the extension of police roles in each of their local areas.

“Yung lecture na isinagawa natin sa mga force multipliers mag-serve as refresher, at the same time i-develop ‘yung skills nila, to educate din para sa ganun sila ‘yung magiging katuwang ng ating kapulisan dito sa CCPO,” Navida said.

He added that police and barangay enforcers have been a vital part in accomplishing anticriminality operations, as most of the information comes from the community itself.

“Nagbibigay ng lead sa ating kapulisan for those personalities na involved sa mga crimes ay kanila rin nag-originate, kinoconsider natin na napakahalaga ‘yung role nila dito sa CCPO,” Navida said.

He clarified that each tip provided still undergoes validation and background checking.

And to ensure the way that force multipliers operate is still in line with police standard operating procedure, police personnel will serve as their handlers and observe the implementation of the orders coming from the proper authorities during big events and operations.

“Actually lahat ng force multipliers, may tinatawag tayo na handler sa kanila, sila ‘yung mangangasiwa, or every activity meron tayong kapulisan na magma-man sa kanila, hindi pepwede na purely ‘yung force multiplier natin,” he said.

He said that empowering the local enforcers will help the police stretch their available resources and personnel to better cover different areas.

“Sila ‘yung niyu-utilize natin, considering na ‘yung bilang ng kapulisan is limited lang, with the help of force multiplier nagagawa nating maayos at matiwasay yung big events na dinaraos natin dito sa Cebu City,” Navida said.
