Talisay jail to install nets over perimeter fence

The management of Talisay City Jail is working to install nets around the jail’s perimeter fence to further prevent contraband from being thrown in from outside.

City Jail Warden Gil Inopia shared an incident three weeks ago where a masked person standing outside the jail’s perimeter wall was caught on their CCTV cameras lobbing about five packs of cigarettes inside the fence. They failed to catch the person.

Inopia said he believes that for years, inmates have been acquiring prohibited materials from their cohorts who pitch these items over the perimeter fence, despite its 20-meter height.

"Kining mga ilegalista pwerte gyud mangita ug paagi aron lang makalusot ang gusto nilang ipalusot nga kontrabando. Mao na nga kami sad maningkamot aron mag-una gyud mi sa ilang mga plano," Inopia said.

Inopia said installing nets around the perimeter wall would be the best solution for this problem.

He added that the Talisay City Engineering office is now working on the program of works for the said project.

Talisay City Budget Officer Edgar Mabunay also said that he is waiting for the program of works so that he can appropriate funds for it.

Additionally, the city also completed construction of three humps along the front street of the jail facility two weeks ago.

This is to prevent another strafing incident in the facility. It was reported that the facility has been strafed twice this year.

The humps are intended to slow down vehicles so CCTV cameras can clearly capture perpetrators.
