P1M reward good incentive for cops
A high-ranking official from the Cebu City Police Office said the reward of P1 million worth of equipment from Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is a good motivator for other city police stations to improve their performance.
“Usa na sa makapadasig kanang reward, og makadasig sa ubang mga station commanders to double their efforts to make more accomplishments,” said Superintendent Artemio Ricabo, deputy director for administration.
The reward is set to be given to Chief Inspector Maria Theresa Macatangay of the Fuente Police Station, also called Police Station 2, after Cebu City Office on Substance Abuse Prevention head Garry Lao submitted a recommendation to the mayor’s office.
Lao lauded the antidrug abuse initiatives by Macatangay, for consistently reaching out to COSAP as part of the coordinated approach in countering addiction for the barangays in their area of responsibility.
Among the police station’s anti-illegal drug programs are the Pangandoy sa Kausaban –a community-based treatment for drug surrenderers, a postermaking contest, and conferences with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7, Department of Interior and Local Government, COSAP, and the barangays.
Macatangay, who is also a lawyer, previously said if it is true they will get the prize it is most welcome.
“If it will be realized ma’am, it would be a great morale booster to our police force,” she said.
“Magpasalamat ta ni mayor nga ni-appreciate siya sa performance sa Station 2. Our anti-drug operation, nakita niya ang Station 2 mas ni surpass sa uban. In regards sa P1 million, dako kaayo ni siya og ikatabang sa atong police office, especially sa atong mga needed equipment,” Ricabo said.
He clarified that the accomplishment of the Fuente Police Station does not mean the other police stations in the city are non-performing. He said the other stations are doing their share in curbing illegal drugs, gambling, and other crimes.
“Di man maingon nga non-performing kay tanan man nag-effort pero ang Station 2 ang nakita nga mas labaw og effort, halos tanan naa man g’yuy buhat,” Ricabo said.
