Toledo public school gets own covered court

-

Carmen Copper Corporation believes that quality education plays a vital role in reducing poverty in the community. Toward this end, the company turned over recently a Multipurpose Covered Court constructed within the grounds of Media Once National High School (MONHS) in Toledo City that shall benefit not only its students and faculty, but the entire community.

For the students of MONHS, holding activities in the school grounds under the scorching heat and harsh weather is now a thing of the past.

The addition of this facility to MONHS will pave the way for more educational and recreational activities that shall develop the students into responsible citizens and future leaders.

The new covered court can also be used as an evacuation center in the event of a disaster.

Costing P4.1 million, this facility has a rainwater harvester to provide water supply to the school for cleaning and washing only, especially that water is scarce in the area.

“On behalf of the Department of Education Division of Toledo, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to Carmen Copper for donating such multipurpose covered court. Thank you for choosing MONHS as one of the beneficiaries of your social development programs and for all the help you have extended to the different schools in Toledo,” said Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Joseph Irwin Lagura.

“Your concern for education manifests your genuine desire to improve the communities surrounding the mines through educating the young children who will become future leaders few years from now,” Lagura added.

Sofronio D. Paragoso, MONHSOIC-Principal-said-that without the help from stakeholders, constructing a covered court in their public school is impossible. “But because of the collaborative efforts of the academic community and our benefactor, Carmen Copper Corporation, our dream to have this facility has become a reality,” Paragoso said.

The multipurpose covered court donated to MONHS is a project under the company’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP). Through the SDMP, Carmen Copper implements various projects that aim to improve the quality of education in its host and neighboring barangays in Toledo City.
