Some 416 indigents and Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries recently graduated from the skills training program offered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Beneficiaries were from 25 areas in Cebu, namely: the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Carcar, Naga, Talisay, LapuLapu, and Toledo; and the towns of Balamban, Malabuyoc, Minglanilla, San Fernando, Sibonga, Compostela, Tudela, Sogod, Liloan, Tabogon, San Remegio, Bantayan, Boljoon, Medellin, Dalaguete, and Camotes.
They took pre-licensing and skills training courses, two of the various livelihood skills training conducted by DSWD-7 through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
The SLP is a multistakeholder program of the government implemented by the DSWD. It aims to improve the standard of living of poor households by facilitating opportunities for development and management of resources viable for micro-enterprises, community empowerment through skills training, and employment facilitation.
The beneficiaries were selected based on their needs and interests.
Aside from the prelicensing and skills training courses, DSWD-7 is also offering automotive servicing, beauty care, pharmacy services, housekeeping services, contact centers services, among others.
DSWD has partnered with training agencies to facilitate the immediate employment of the graduates.
In fact, 112 of the 279 graduates of pre-licensing training course last July have already been hired by different security agencies.
Other graduates will be monitored by the DSWD-7 until they are able to get a job.
SLP has already served more than 17,000 individuals and has disbursed some P54.6 million as of November last year.
