eSports enthusiasts drive PC and laptop sales in Phl
Aside from the consistent growth in the corporate market, PC (personal computer) and even laptop sales in the Philippines, is driven by the fast growing eSports enthusiasts.
This according to technology maker Acer Philippines, which noted a huge leap in sales performance in its consumer product segment in PC and laptops.
Acer Philippines Marcomm head for consumer business JB Aquino said that this particular niche market is seen as the fast emerging sales driver for the company.
Surprisingly, Aquino said the markets of Cebu and Davao, showed higher growth in the gaming technology sales, as eSports enthusiasts in these areas spend generously on these products. In Manila, on the other hand, gamers have wide choices of products.
He noted that Cebu and Davao as markets for eSports support is more lucrative, adding that gamers have deep pockets or high disposal income.
For this reason, Acer Philippines is highlighting its gaming PC product called Predator. It is the new product series dedicated to PC Gaming from Acer: Desktop, Notebook, Tablet and Monitors for a complete gaming experience.
According to Aquino, a sophisticated, hard core eSports hobbyist spends more of less P180 thousand for a complete and high-speed gaming PC.
Just like mobile phones, gaming PC is also becoming a status-symbol for e-gamers, aside from achieving ultimate experience.
At present, Acer Philippines captures five percent share of the fast growing gaming PC market, although it is one of the late entrants in this particular category, Aquino said.
Likewise, in an earlier interview with Cebu-based technology gadgets solutions provider industry, Thinking Tools Inc., (TTI) president Wilson Tan, he said that the rising growth of eSports or online gaming drives the high double growth of the technology and gadgets solutions retail industry.
Although, this is still considered as niche market, Tan agreed Aquino's observation that online gaming gadgets has become one of the primarily sales drivers PC sales in the Philippines.
Tan mentioned that an enthusiast spends as much as P200 thousand for a single upgrade of a PC, along with accessories that make the gaming more advantageous. An specialty mouse for gaming for instance could cost P5,000 or more.
