Polog dethrones Garing, snares Seniors B crown in Alegado Cup

-

Polog toiled hard in the entire 40-minute skirmish and their efforts paid off as they dethroned Garing, 66-62, in comefrom-behind fashion to claim the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category B title of the 7th Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball Cup the other night at the jampacked Consolacion covered court.

Eric Muñoz, Manulel Pepito and Filhart Suson stole the thunder as they connived for 44 big points for Polog, which did not put to waste the twice-tobeat edge they enjoyed for scoring a clean sweep in the elimination round.

It was a bumpy ride for Polog though towards their crowning glory.

Determined to retain their title, Garing jumped the gun on Polog to take an early 19-8 lead, which they parlayed into a 14point advantage at halftime, 36-22.

However, Polog woke up from deep offensive slumber at the start of the final half.

Fully recharged after the short break, Polog came out firing in the third period and pounded Garing with a 21-6 bomb to seize the upper hand, 4342, entering the final period.

The two contenders then locked themselves up in a close-quarter battle the rest of the way, but Polog, under the flagship of Barangay Captain Glen Reuyan and head coach Marc Bryan Flores, played cool under heavy fire when it mattered to escape with a four-point win.

Gilbert Lauron finished with 14 points, Henry Villanca scored 11, while Reynaldo Pardillo nailed 10 markers in a losing effort for Garing.—
