Greco’s text to Gigi ends in ‘dalaw’ ban

A text message received by former Provincial Board member Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez from her detained brother Leodegreco Sanchez led to the suspension of visitation rights of all inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center effective yesterday.

According to CPDRC Task Force member Roberto Legaspi, Governor Hilario Davide III, acting jail warden, suspended the “dalaw” privileges after Gigi reported directly to him that her CPDRC-detained brother had managed to send her a text message.

Gigi claimed that Greco sent her a text message at around 11 p.m. last Sunday, although the content of the message was not yet clear as of this writing. In prior interviews, she had maintained that she would not tolerate the alleged illegal doings of her brother.

Legaspi said CPDRC administration officials confiscated two phones from Greco’s possession yesterday.

Greco was arrested at his farm in Tuburan town last July 29 after yielding unlicensed firearms of different calibers and drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, Legaspi said CPDRC officials also caught high-profile inmate Joavan Fernandez using a mobile phone last Friday, a prohibited activity inside the facility.

Fernandez and Greco are now detained in isolation until further notice.

“The entire dalaw is cancelled in the whole jail,”

Legaspi said.

The CPDRC Task Force believes that someone keeps on supplying the inmates with cellphones. During last week’s greyhound operation, at least 25 cellphones were seized.

“Let them police themselves who brings in cellphones. Then Greco and all the high-profile inmates won’t have cellphones. Just because of one person, they’re going to be penalized,” he said.
