City of TalisayTraffic Operations Development Authority head Almond Dela Peña said he wants to meet with the bus operators and Joey Herera, manager of Cebu South Bus Terminal.

Public buses plying southern Cebu towns are now using the CSCR because of the ongoing underpass project on Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City.

Dela Peña said they have observed that buses are over speeding along the coastal road. He is planning to set a speed limit of 60 kilometers-per-hour at the approaches of each junction within Talisay City and 40 kph on the bridge.

He asked all drivers to be extra careful and practice defensive driving.

“Pahimangno sa driver, be a defensive driver kay dili lang kita ang nagdagan sa karsada,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dela Peña is hoping that all junctions at the CSCR will have security cameras installed soon. However, he admitted that even with security cameras over speeding might still be a problem because they do not have the proper equipment.

He said the city does not have speed guns to measure how fast the vehicles are passing the CSCR.

Talisay City police chief Superintendent Jason Villamater said speed limit should be imposed at the highway to prevent accidents. He said the CSCR is connected to various roads leading to the barangays of the city wherein motorcycles and trisikads are commonly used by the people as their mode of transportation.

Villamater said they could not also deploy traffic police in every junction because of limited personnel.

Mayor Eduardo Gullas said he will talk to the city police chief and traffic enforcers to discuss the matter. He also wanted consistent police visibility at the CSCR.

“Ang bus akong gitawag ug dagkong aliwas sa dalan. Kanang motorcycle ginganlan ko na’g sakdap - sakdap sa wala sakdap sa tuo.I have not had a chance to talk in connection with the problem. I had to call a meeting with the traffic police, talk with Villamater and Dela Peña," he said.
