Man beaten dead after drunken tiff

A man beat his uncle to death in Barangay Mangaco, Ginatilan, Cebu, last Sunday evening after they had a drunken argument.

Police Officer 3 Ruben Patubig said Violito Aguilo, 42, a resident of Barangay Mangaco, was beaten dead by his nephew Nestor Cabang, 26, after the two got into an argument while they were drunk.

Patubig said the two were on their way home from a birthday celebration where they already had a few drinks. Along the way they dropped by a store where they decided to drink some more.

“Hubog na ni ang duha gikan sa birthday niya nihapit pa g'yud og laing balay niya nag-inom na sad,” said Patubig.

In the middle of their drinking, Cabang, who was jobless, allegedly asked his uncle for P5 to buy something from the store.

Aguilo took out a P20 bill and gave it to Cabang. Later, Cabang returned and gave him the P15 change.

“Paghatag daw ani sa sukli nga P15 kay gikumot ang kamot sa victim sa suspect ug didto nagsugod ang lalis pero nauwang ra sa mga kauban,” Patubig said.

He added that when the victim was on his way home together with a 10-year-old nephew, Cabang allegedly tailed him and beat him with his bare fists.

“Base sa mga giingun sa mga witnesses nga bisag nakuyapan na ang victim kay wa g'yud mohunong sa pagsukmag si Cabang sa iyang uyuan,” added Patubig.

The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital but declared dead on arrival. The doctor said the victim's death was caused by dislocation secondary to blunt trauma of the neck.

Ginatilan police immediately arrested Cabang who is now detained in the Ginatilan lockup cell waiting for the filing of charges against him.
