The annual fluvial procession in honor of Talisay City's patron saint, Sta. Teresa de Avila, was cancelled yesterday due to bad weather.

Instead of the usual fluvial procession, organizers agreed to hold a land procession, which was part of the city's fiesta celebration on Sunday, October 15.

It was the first time in many years that the fluvial procession was cancelled.

Alvin Santillana, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head, said they were forced to cancel the fluvial procession because the seas were very rough.

He said the Coast Guard warned them that the sea is not safe for small boats and advised the organizers to cancel it for safety purposes.

"Wala nadayon ang fluvial tungud sa bad weather sigun sa coast guard," he said.

At least 68 vessels and motor bancas, some of them adorned with buntings, were supposed to join the fluvial procession.

The 10-kilometer fluvial procession was supposed to sail at 6 a.m. from Barangay Tanke and will end at the Larawan beach in Barangay Poblacion at 8.

The land parade of the image of Sta. Teresa de Avila took place at around 7:15 a.m. from the South Road Properties in Barangay Tanke to Barangay Poblacion.

The image arrived at Sta. Teresa de Avila Parish Church in Barangay Poblacion at 8:10 a.m.

No untoward incident was reported during the procession, according to city's police Chief Superintendent Jason Villamater.
