P7B project to rise at Navforcen

A P7-billion worth of projects that will make Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) in Barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City a major naval base in the country will soon start, according to Philippine Navy commanding officer Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado.

Mercado made the announceme­nt yesterday on the occasion of Navforcen’s 40th Founding Anniversar­y.

“This base will be the major base of the Philippine Navy. We will have P7B project here in this particular area,” Mercado said.

Part of the developmen­ts, aside from office buildings, will be housing units for officers and men of the navy.

He also announced the impending procuremen­t of at least P300 million worth of additional fastcrafts to be deployed in different naval bases including Navforcen.

Mercado said the Philippine Navy will continue to do its duty to protect the maritime domain of the country.

Yesterday’s anniversar­y celebratio­n was highlighte­d by the awarding of 23 outstandin­g Navforcen personnel and their partners in various undertakin­gs.

Navforcen’s anniversar­y theme was “Always a dependable partner for peace, prosperity and unity in the entire Visayas.”

Navforcen earlier conducted several preanniver­sary activities like bloodletti­ng in cooperatio­n with the Department of Health, Barangay Kapamilya in coordinati­on with ABSCBN; coastal cleanup; color fun run; Pinoyfun games; health and wellness fair; and feeding activity.
