Sun Life Legal Team wins in Philippine Law Awards

The Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. (SLOCPI) Legal Team was recognized in this year’s Philippine Law Awards as the Insurance InHouse Team of the Year for its outstanding contributions not just within the company, but also within the life insurance and asset management industries.

Under the leadership of Sun Life General Counsel Atty. Edgar Tordesillas, the team helped bring the Sun Life mobile app into fruition by advising a crossfunctional team in dealing with and resolving issues relating to e-commerce, data privacy, anti-money laundering, and information security. The team also played a significant role in developing the new generation wellness product SUN Fit and Well, where it even went the extra mile in coordinating with regulators.

Apart from handling the legal issues of SLOCPI, the team also supports Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc. and Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc., while also striving to contribute to the industry through the Philippine Life Insurance Association and Philippine Investment Funds Association. The team also lends its assistance to the Legal departments of the other Sun Life companies in Asia.

Held recently at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, the Philippine Law Awards is organized by Asian Legal Business, a Thomson Reuters-owned publication, and aims to honor outstanding private practitioners and in-house teams that make valuable contributions to the country’s legal sector.
