Osmeña, Quisumbing off to Japan for official trip
The vice mayors of Cebu City and Mandaue City will take charge of their respective cities as both mayors head to Japan on separate official business.
This morning, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña heads to the city of Yokohama, Japan to attend the three-day Asia Smart City Conference for Asian leaders and international organizations.
Osmeña received an invitation from Fumiko Hayashi, city mayor of Yokohama Japan, to attend the annual city conference.
“As I believe that your participation contributes to the success of the Conference, I sincerely wish you will consider accepting this invitation. It would be appreciated, too, if you would send a representative of your city should you be engaged in other commitments during this period of time. Also, I would be extraordinary grateful if you would share this Conference with any parties of your same attentions and interests,” reads the invitation dated August 30, 2017.
This year's conference will combine and discover the expertise of participants for smart development in Asia.
“I am sure that the Conference will also be an excellent opportunity for you to network with representatives of national and local governments as well as leaders in a range of industries,” the invitation further stated.
The said conference starts today until the 27th, Friday.
Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella sits as acting mayor today until Osmeña's return.
MANDAUE CITY
Meanwhile, Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna will serve as acting mayor for a week as Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing left for Japan yesterday on official travel until the 30th of October.
In a memorandum order, Quisumbing instructed Fortuna to perform responsibilities as the city's mayor while he is on leave.
“You are to oversee the office, sign checks, papers and documents, and perform all the acts necessary in the performance of the undersigned's duties and responsibilities subject to the limitation provided by law,” reads the memorandum order dated October 18.
