Talisay to expand landfill
The local government of Talisay City needs to expand its sanitary landfill soon because the area it is utilizing now is almost full.
Talisay City Engineer Gamaliel Vicente Jr. said he is waiting for the approval of his request to put up an additional area of the city's sanitary landfill.
Vicente has already prepared a program of works to construct an additional area connecting to the existing landfill.
The city has a three-hectare landfill which is divided into three pans.
Vicente's proposed project, which is pan D, has an estimated area of 1000 square meters and would cost around P1 million.
Once Mayor Eduardo Gullas approves his proposed project, his team will immediately start the work which will take months to be implemented.
The city's landfill located in Barangay Tapul was established last 2004 in compliance with Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
The expected life span of the landfill is 20 years.
Pans A and B were utilized during the administration of former mayor Socrates Fernandez while pan C was utilized last 2015.
Vicente explained that the expected life span of pan C is around two years because it is on an elevated area.
Vicente said due to failure of residents to segregate their wastes, the landfill was filled immediately.
But he also said that pans A and B will be utilized soon after the consolidation period.
