A man and a minor involved in a road accident along Transcentral Highway, Barangay Busay were arrested after they were found carrying more than one kilo of dried Marijuana leaves, yesterday morning.
The arrested suspects were identified by the police as Jaydee Abas and a 17-year-old boy believed to be his cohort. Both are residents of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
Police Superintendent Timmar Alam, Cebu City Public Safety Company (CCPSC) chief, said that while on mobile patrol at the Transcentral Highway, they responded to a vehicular accident alarm involving the suspects who were on board a motorcycle.
Allegedly, the suspects countered flow to the opposite lane and hit a sedan. Abas and the minor suffered minor injuries.
Alam said that upon closer inspection, they saw that the minor was hugging one sack full of Marijuana dried leaves with an estimated value of P12,000.
During interrogation with City Intelligence Branch (CIB) headed by its deputy chief, Police Senior Inspector Narolf Tan, the suspects revealed that they were on their way home from Barangay Taptap where they allegedly got the marijuana from a certain Alvin and Gino.
Abas also told the police that he has been going to Barangay Taptap once a month for four months now.
Tan said that they are validating the information given by Abas before it will be forwarded to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for appropriate action following the mandate of President Rodrigo Duterte of PDEA as the sole agency responsible for any illegal drug operations.
Abas is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office detention cell and will be facing charges for violating Section 5 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
