Talisay imposes liquor ban on Kalag-Kalag
The Talisay City government will implement a liquor ban inside cemeteries on Nov. 1 and 2.
This is to prevent any untoward incident during the observance of the All Saints' and All Souls' Day wherein a throng of people are expected to flock to the cemeteries to visit their departed loved ones.
Aside from banning alcoholic beverages inside the cemetery, they would also not allow sharp objects or deadly weapons and loud sound systems.
Talisay Police Station chief Jason Villamater said there are some individuals who would get violent whenever they are drunk.
"Kasi sa cemetery is solemn. Walang mag-iinuman kaya iniiwasan natin yon," he said.
He added that the usual problem they noticed during these events, especially in public cemeteries, are drunk individuals who would usually start a commotion.
In private cemeteries, however, the usual concern involves traffic flow and the difficulty of looking for parking spaces.
Villamater had already coordinated with City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority (CTTODA) Head Almond dela Peña, who will manage the traffic operations.
Motorists are advised to refrain from parking their vehicles along the sidewalks to prevent traffic congestion.
Also, Villamater planned on deploying two police personnel in each of the five cemeteries in the City.
The city's three public cemeteries are located in Barangays Poblacion, Cansojong and Tanke.
While the two private cemeteries are the Cebu South Memorial Garden in Barangay Mohon and Evergreen Cemetery in Barangay San Roque along the South Road Properties.
Some barangay tanods would also be deployed to augment the personnel in each cemetery to help in the security measures, particularly in the inspection of things that would be brought inside the cemetery.
All contrabands would be immediately confiscated.
There will also be police personnel assigned to roam around each cemetery, aside from the members of the Motorcycle Anti-Street Crime Operations and beat patrols.
Talisay policemen have already conducted information drive and have done their rounds at the five cemeteries.
