Efficient trash collection and floods

-

A couple of months ago an obscure news came out about the town of Calubian, Leyte. The town and the mayor got an award from the DILG for encouraging the townspeople to place plastic wrappings, bags, candy and junk food wrappers into plastic water/cola bottles. The schoolchildren carried with them plastic bottles and a barbecue stick to skewer and cram the plastics they see on the road.

I have been doing it in my housekeeping and the garbage bin is not so icky and messy. The pesky items are candy and sachet wrappers and these are the ones that fly away from garbage trucks.

Try it. Just tie the plastic bottle and hang it near the sink or garbage can with a bamboo stick handy for cramming. And it takes at least a week to fill up one.

And am sure, it will be less of a hassle for the garbage collectors.

Dear Ms. Perez,

Very truly yours,

I fully agree with you on how horrible it was when you were passing through a knee-deep flood at the North Reclamation Area. I was also scared stiff when I passed by that area last Friday September 22. I was alone in my car and a scenario came into my mind! What if my car would conk out while the flood would continue to rise? Should I swim or just wait until I get immersed inside my car hopelessly dead?

Tomas Osmeña, now is the time for you to open your eyes very wide and do what is necessary for the good of all your constituents.
