Talisay City Market Committee met with sectoral representatives of market vendors to discuss space allocation for the second phase of the Tabunok Public Market as it nears completion.

Market Committee head Rudelyn Navarro said that each sector has a corresponding area and how much space each vendor can occupy.

Navarro explained that the tentative measurement for the meat section is 1.2 meter by 1.2 meter for each vendor while vendors of fish, vegetables and fruits will occupy an area of one meter by one meter each.

She added that they won't accommodate too many vendors as they are also considering the convenience of the vendors as well as the customers.

“Basin pwerte na daghana sa manindahay wala nay lugar sa mga mamalitay,” she said.

Navarro estimates that there are around 600 existing market vendors in the city.

They are screening all these vendors to see whether they are qualified to own a stall in the new market.

Qualifications include the legitimacy of permits and also whether the vendor is constantly paying monthly rental fees.

Engineer Rick Tuanson of Tuanson Construction, the company contracted to work on the second phase of the market, said that in order for them to achieve the target completion of the structure in December, the city should finalize the placement of each vendor.

“Ang paghuman sa trabaho base sa kanus-a maapprove. Magkinahanglan tinabangay kay pareho gadali. Naa man sad mi amoa timetable. Kinahanglan maaprove ug mapahiluna na nila kung asa mabutang ang mga stalls para dire-diretso na ang among pagtrabaho," he stressed.

It was reported that City Mayor Eduardo Gullas requested for an early completion of the market's second phase this October.

However, due to the delay in transferring vendors to the makeshift stalls, construction started late. The construction is set to be completed on the original target completion date, which is in December.

The second phase of the construction costs P52 million and features an elevated parking area and own drainage system.

“Apil sa second phase kay drainage para maghigop sa tubig gikan isdaan ug karnehan, pero lahi na siya sa Sewage Treatment Plan (STP),” he said.
