Two more charges were filed in court against a drug suspect who was arrested by the operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 two weeks ago in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City because of a pending warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court in Toledo City.

The prosecutor’s office has found probable cause to charge Dennis Lapa, 40, resident of Barangay Ibo, Toledo City, with illegal possession of firearm and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Lapa was arrested on October 19 while walking along the sidewalk of a mall in Barangay Mambaling. Police Officer 3 Jerome Morales and Police Officer 1 Anthony Macapaz of CIDG-Cebu Province served the warrant of arrest issued by RTC Judge Hermes Montero in Toledo City against Lapa.

Lapa had been wanted for violation of Section 5 (selling of dangerous drugs), Article II of RA 9165. At least six packs of shabu and a caliber .38 revolver were found in his possession during his arrest.

Lapa allegedly tried to escape but was eventually arrested after a brief chase. He did not anymore undergo a preliminary investigation after he manifested that he will answer the charges directly in court.

The prosecutor’s office recommended no bail for possession of illegal drugs while P120,000 bail was recommended for illegal possession of firearm.
