A Korean police delegation from the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency visited Police Regional Office-7 yesterday to foster better relations with their counterparts in the region.

The team was led by its commissioner Senior Superintendent Kim Jae Won. During the visit, a memorandum of understanding between PRO-7 officials and the visiting Korean police officials was entered into to renew their commitment to continue sharing best practices.

The agreement stated that both agencies shall sustain and continuously support the programs and projects that have been established like the Police Liaison Desk, Korean Language Training, Bilateral Information Exchange, and Exchange Visits, among others.

In addition, both agencies shall conduct activities that will further promote and enhance the friendly relations, cooperation, mutual respect, and benefit.Kim said that the friendship that stemmed from the shared history must be continued in the modern time by learning the ways of improving security and safety of Koreans staying in the region.

“I wish that my visit will be the basis of both Filipinos and Korean safety. Central Visayas will be the most peaceful and safe region all over the world,” Kim said.

PRO-7 director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino led the unveiling of the memorabilia hall, which serves as physical reminder of the partnership. It was also discussed during closed-door meeting how to address problems encountered by the Korean tourists.

“The prevalent problems encountered by Korean tourists and how we will prevent it, how we control and reduce crime in Cebu province, which they will try to replicate in Chungnam, the same with us,” Espino said.

The Korean police visitors will stay in Cebu for three days and they are expected to visit several police installations to have a first-hand observation of Korean desks.

“They will be here for three days, they will visit the different police offices, to view how we work, to preserve our peace,” Espino said.
