VECO completes P15M schools rewiring project
The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) has completed its P15M public schools rewiring projects for 2017, benefiting some 50,000 students.
Central to VECO’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs being an electric distribution company is upgrading the electrical wiring system of schools within its franchise area. This year, VECO continues to provide a safe environment for students as it completed 19 rewiring projects.
The beneficiaries of the said rewiring projects include six schools from the Cebu City division, four from the Mandaue City division, one from the Talisay City division, two from the City of Naga division and six from the division of Cebu Province.
Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Bianito A. Dagatan expressed his deepest gratitude to VECO for choosing to invest in education-related projects when there are so many areas that they can help out. He added that the rewiring project of VECO is more than just providing adequate lighting for students’ learning performance but also helping schools save energy and money with the bulbs’ low electric consumption.
Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing, meanwhile, emphasized that VECO’s rewiring project is a noble initiative for schools are now safe from electrical hazards. He cited that many fire incidents are caused by faulty wiring which is why he is very grateful to VECO for giving schools, especially those several decades old, an upgraded electrical system.
“It takes a village to raise children and we cannot do it alone. With this, I thank VECO for the willingness to lend a hand for assuring the safety of the students and teachers,” Quisumbing said.
Since 2010, VECO has rewired and added cost-efficient lighting to 2,963 classrooms in 76 schools in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga and in the municipalities of Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla and San Fernando.
