Cops burn P2.1M worth of marijuana
More than P2.1 million worth of marijuana plants were uprooted and burned by police operatives who accidentally found the plantation while conducting patrol in Barangay Sindacan, Danao City Wednesday afternoon.
A total of 9,000 fully grown marijuana plants and another 3, 000 marijuana stalks with a total worth of P2,175,000 were uprooted and confiscated by the operatives led by Police Officer 3 Philip Restauro.
Police Chief Inspector Gerard Ace Pelare, chief of Danao Police, said that they are still conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the cultivator(s).
Pelare also said that they are now checking who owns the land where the marijuana plants were grown. There were no residents living nearby the plantation who could have helped police identify the cultivators.
Barangay Sindacan is on the mountainous part of Danao with an estimated 20 kilometers distance from Barangay Poblacion.
Last August, Danao operatives also uprooted an estimated P3 million worth of marijuana plants in Barangay Langosig.
Pelare said that Danao police keep on intensifying their patrol operations in mountainous areas to strengthen the security against illegal activities.
Police immediately burned the uprooted plants and stalks in the area where they were found.
