Ex-traffic enforcer killed in hit-and-run

-

A 42-year-old security guard and former Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) personnel was killed after he was reportedly ranover by a public utility jeepney (PUJ) along Katipunan Street in Barangay Labangon Saturday evening.

Emmanuel Garciano Gelig sustained head injuries, which caused his immediate death.

A team from the Basak Pardo Emergency Rescue responded to the alarm and brought the victim to Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police Officer 2 Paul Dennis Traya said that a PUJ with either route number 12C or 13C ran over the victim.Witnesses were not sure on the jeepney's physical description.

Gelig was reportedly thrown off his motorcycle while the PUJ immediately drove away.

Traya said that it is possible that the PUJ is about to end its rounds for the day, and may not have been carrying passengers who witnessed the crash.

"Kung naa'y pasahero imposible nga di mutug-an so possible mugarahe na to padung. Kung naa'y tawo on board imposible nga di kabadlong. Ang istorya ra kay nisibat ra kuno," Traya said.

He said that they are still retrieving CCTV camera footage from nearby establishments.

"Manawagan ta sa mga nakakita pagtabang. Hinaot mu-surrender rapud ang driver kay sa kami pa ang maka-locate niya… nagdagan ang kaso nga mapasaka sa iyaha," Traya said.

Initial charges to be filed against the driver of the jeepney are reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property. —
