Approved by the PNP?
To the surprise of PDEA agents, a member of the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) of the PNP, and not from the SAF and PSG as earlier reported, was guarding Diana Yu Uy, daughter of Yuk Lai Yu, a wellknown "drug queen" currently being detained at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW). The PDEA, Bureau of Corrections and PNP-NCRPO raided Uy's condo unit, and discovered two kilos of shabu valued at ten million pesos. We should also mention that the condo unit is located only six hundred meters from the Palace gate.
Uy appears to have continued the illegal drugs trade in the CIW, as she is one of the contracted rice suppliers of the said institution. Because of her authority to enter the CIW, drugs are being brought in. A raid by PDEA and the other agencies on the CIW resulted in the discovery of several grams of shabu hidden in panty liners, around two kilograms in jars and packs, along with other contraband items such as mobile phones, a tablet, pocket wifi and checks and cash, all apparently owned by Yuk Lai Yu. According to PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino, Uy even tried to bribe them with five million pesos to "just keep quiet" about the whole thing.
The PSPG is tasked to guard Very Important Persons, such as national government officials, foreign dignitaries, and private individuals approved by the PNP. This is the branch of the PNP that attends to that. Is Uy considered a VIP by the PNP? Did the PNP approve assigning a guard for Uy? It seems hard to believe that the assigned police bodyguard was not aware of what Uy was doing. Did he just look the other way, or was he bribed "to keep quiet" as well?
The PNP once again has some explaining to do. I wonder what Gen. Dela Rosa will say about this. Maybe he did not know about it. Maybe he was not informed. Maybe he was out of Metro Manila. So many possible reasons. One cannot but help compare this raid to the thousands of raids where poor suspects with "a few sachets of shabu", ended up dead because they "fought back." Maybe a firefight of any kind did not occur in this case because the PSPG guard was also trained and armed, not to mention that a PSPG was assigned to Uy. Imagine the shootout, if ever it happened.
