PSC’s Children’s Game culminates with a bang
Around 2,000 children from 80 barangays in Cebu City gathered and played as the Philippine Sports Commission culminates its Children’s Games yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Dubbed as "Duwa sa Kabataan”, children aged six to 12 years old participated in games which is part of PSC’s grassroots development project aimed at attracting more kids to get involved not only in sports but also in the cultural and performing arts.
“We want to motivate and inspire them to join and choose a sport they want," said Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon 'El Presidente' Fernandez.
During the first day, children compete in various disciplines that include swimming, table tennis, weightlifting, arnis, gymnastics, karatedo, taekwondo, judo, archery, and boxing.
The final day featured local pinoy games or ‘Larong Pinoy’ followed by an awarding ceremony where all the children were given medals.
Fernandez said that the PSC visited several mountainous barangays as they conducted the program, but he is hopeful that these barangays will be able to sustain the program for the children.
"Cebu City is advance when it comes to sports development program because of the efforts of the sports commission here. What we want for is for this mountainous barangays to follow,” Fernandez added.—
