The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has cautioned the public from posting in social media the wearing of the PNP uniform.

This, after several instances were observed and seen both on television and social media of personalities wearing the PNP uniform in a way that disrespects the police organization.

One celebrity was seen on national television wearing a PNP uniform that was matched with pants.

C C P O Spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Llewelyn Reyes said that the public should respect the PNP uniform, since the cops who wore it strive their best just to be able to wear that.

“It greatly hampers the continuing efforts of the organization of gaining public trust and confidence. Sa social media kasi ay doon natin mas accessible ng public. Ang hirap kasi baka gamitin sa illegal ang uniporme. Iyun ang isa ding iniiwasan,” said Reyes.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 2017– 58 or the Reiteration of Tamang Bihis, the police force laid the guidelines for the appropriate and restrained use of PNP uniforms in showbiz and social media.

Reyes added that if any civilian or celebrity will be seen using PNP uniforms will be immediately reported to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

“May mga iniimbestigahan na tayo na nakita. Actually, mayroon na ata tayong na-file-an kasi hindi proper ang pagkakasuot,” Reyes said.

However, he clarified that celebrities and civilians will be allowed to use the PNP uniforms if they had a permit from the higher headquarters specifically those being used in TV programs.

“Igalang naman natin ang uniporme ng ating kapulisan kasi hindi natin alam ang hirap na pinagdadaanan nila para maisuot lang ng isang public servant ang uniform na iyan. Sana man lang kung pinortray natin sa social media ay magkaroon tayo ng proper coordination at isuot ng tama ang uniporme ng kapulisan,” said Reyes.
