CCPO to strictly regulate firecracker sales
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), in coordination with the Cebu City government, will fully implement Executive Order 28 which regulates and controls the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
Senior Supt. Joel Doria said they have to ensure public safety especially after the recent incident in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City where a firecracker factory exploded and injured six people, including the owner and his family.
Police identified the victims as Jonathan Latorre Amistad, 36, his wife Argentina, 33, and their daughter Marcia, 8.
Other victims are Andrew Laurel, 14; Isa Jane Andal, 14; and Angelou Casul, 18, all residents of Sitio Lawis of Barangay Babag.
Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO7) Spokesman Superintendent Reymar Tolentin earlier said with the Executive Order 28 which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last June 2017, there will be on the spot inspections especially now that Christmas is fast approaching.
Section 1of the order stipulates that to minimize the risks of injuries, the use of firecrackers should be confined to community fireworks display.
The executive order also states that before any business establishment can sell firecrackers, they are mandated to comply with the required clearances and business permits from the PNP Firearms Explosive Security and Guards Supervisory Section (FESAGSS), the court and the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).
