Piston Cebu won’t join strike on Monday

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 has allowed My Bus to pick up and drop off passengers along its routes on Monday in view of the nationwide transport strike.

LTFRB-7 regional director Ahmed Cuizon said in his notice to My Bus, which travels from Talisay City to Mactan Cebu International Airport, they may pick up and drop off passengers anywhere within their routes without getting apprehended. Regular My Bus fare still applies.

However, My Bus is not allowed to travel outside their usual routes.

But militant transport group, the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston)-Cebu, is not joining the transport strike and will only hold a half-day picket rally to be attended by 150 to 200 jeepney drivers.

This is their way of supporting the two-day transport strike to be staged by PISTON in Manila on December 4 and 5.

PISTON-Cebu chairman Greg Perez said that although only around 200 PUJ drivers in Cebu will join the picket rally, they still expect transportation disruption, especially in Mandaue routes where they have plenty of members.

Perez said the half-day picket rally will start at the regional office of the National Housing Authority in Gorordo Ave., then to LTFRB office where a program will be held and they will proceed to the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor in V. Gullas St.

PISTON's transport strike in Manila is still anchored on their opposition to the proposed phase out of 15-year-old and above jeeneys.

Perez said they will continue to oppose the plan of the government as thousands of jeepney drivers will lose their livelihood and yet the government has no concrete plans for the drivers.
