CITRASCO: Modern jeepneys, new routes
The Cebu Integrated Transport Service Multi-purpose Cooperative (CITRASCO) is still eyeing to have more modern jeepneys running on new routes in Cebu City's streets in compliance with the Public Utility Jeepney Modernization Program of the Department of Transportation.
"Mao gyud na ang among plano nga magdugang og mga modern jeepneys especially sa mga ruta nga wa pay jeepneys nga nagdagan," said Ryan Benjamin Yu, general manager and chairman of CITRASCO.
This developed as CITRASCO filed an application before the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7 the other day for the granting of franchise of 20 modern jeepneys.
The 20 jeepneys will travel from Cebu City Hall - Asia Town I.T. Park Robinsons Galleria Cebu - Cebu Business Park and vice versa.
Yu said that I.T. Park alone has a workforce of 23,000 in 2011 and the number is growing, thus there is a need for additional jeepneys and new routes.
The petition stated that majority, if not all, of the persons who work or go within the vicinity of the applied route have no private vehicles and are relying on public transportation.
As of this time, the petition said, the only available public utility vehicle service is taxi service.
"Hence, providing other modes of transportation such as PUJ is a necessity," the petition reads.
It added that there is a dire need for a reliable and convenient PUJ service in the applied route as there is a high demand from the riding public, hence the government should supply the same.
Yu said this route will directly connect people within the heart of Cebu City.
CITRASCO hopes that LTFRB-7 will provisionally grant its petition before the end of the year.
