Talisay City’s technical-vocational center will be operational early next year, an official said.
City Engineer Gamaliel Vicente Jr. said the center is set to be inaugurated on January 12 next year in time for the city’s Charter Day.
Vicente said they are now renovating the city’s old public market in Barangay Lagtang that will be utilized as the tech-voc center.
The city has allotted around P1 million for the rehabilitation.
Vicente said the renovation has been going smoothly since informal settlers living at the old public market voluntarily vacated the place last week. The 38 families of informal settlers each received P10,000 from the city government.
He said the front building will be converted into classrooms for tech-voc students, while the back portion of the building will be developed later on for additional courses and programs, such as plumbing and electrical installation. “We will try to finish the renovation early next year,” he said, in response to the earlier directive of Mayor Eduardo Gullas to hasten the renovation.
The city in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has offered six courses, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), housekeeping, bread and pastry, dressmaking, and beauty care. Once completed, students will get National Certification Level II (NC II) certificates from TESDA.
