Jimenez, Comaingkin­g top Serging Osmeña netfest

Mark Jimenez and Athena Comaingkin­g reigned supreme in their respective divisions in the first Serging Osmeña, Jr. National Invitation­al Table Tennis Championsh­ip yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Jimenez of team LOPTTA outsmarted teammate John Paul Gubaton, 11-8, 11-9, 711, 11-7, to claim the championsh­ip crown in the men’s single division as Dannel Jay Tormis of Hua Ching Foundation settled for third.

In the girl's class, Comaingkin­g of University of Cebu topped the women’s side with a rousing five setter over teammate Diana Oliverio, 8-11, 11-5, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9. LOPTTA’s Micah Tanate claimed the bronze medal.

In the girls and boys 12-under division, Sheramae Damaug and John Gapol silenced their respective opponents to win the gold.

Damaug silenced Hyun-ah Acruz with a three-setter 11-5, 11-3, 11-6. Marjorie Quirante placed third. Gapol, for his part, grabbed the title against Andrie Caballes, 117, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10. Daniel Butar nailed in bronze medal.

Glenn Jacalan of Balamban triumphed in the Liha Singles class against teammate Barry Flor, 21-18, 21-12. The University of Cebu and team LOPTTA dominated the in the men and women’s team event, while MATTAS and RAV team claimed the overall titles in the boys and girls 12-under division. Team Chigo lorded it over the team event. —
