The over 9,000 inmates of Cebu City Jail, Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, and Operation Second Chance will have the opportunity to venerate the miraculous image of Senior Sto. Niño during the Sinulog next month even if they are in detention.

Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak, Sinulog Executive Committee chairman, said that the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño approved their request to allow the image to visit the three prison facilities in Barangay Kalunasan.

Tumulak said they thought of giving the prisoners the chance to feel the spirit of the Sinulog.

“Lipay kaayo ta og dako kay giapprove sa Basilica ang atoang request sa pagbisita sa atoang imahe ni Senior Santo Niño to pave way also sa mga devotees kay kining mga inmates walay opportunity pag-adto sa simbahan, pagdagkot sa ilahang pagtuo or faith,” Tumulak said.

He said this is a rare opportunity for the inmates to renew their faith to the holy child.

“Atong tuyo ani to strengthen faith, religious aspect, they are entitled also even though they are inmates, they are entitled sa pag-fiesta,” Tumulak said.

The jail facilities will hold novena mass and other religious activities during the visit of the image.

“Twenty-four hours didto ang imahe para ni sa mga inmates apil na sa ilahang relatives and families, naay mass and activities, makahawok or hikap sila sa imahe,” Tumulak said.

He said this is not going to be the first time that the miraculous image will visit detention facilities. Tumulak said this was done before but was stopped in 2013.

Tumulak also requested the Basilica officials to allow the image to visit Cebu City Medical Center and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. The request is still pending.

“Kay daghang masakiton ang naguol especially relatives nga naa diha sa hospitals. Ato lang is to strengthen the faith, naay miracle nga maayo sila. If this would happen first time ni sa hospitals,”Tumulak said.
