Barangay tanod surrenders after killing fratman
A 26-year-old barangay tanod surrendered to authorities in Barili town, southern Cebu after killing a fraternity member Tuesday night.
Wenello Mendoza turned himself to Giloctog barangay chief a few hours after he shot 24-year-old Chad Salinas three times.
Salinas was rushed to the town's district hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Based on the initial police investigation, Salinas was recruiting minors to join his fraternity group, Alpha Kappa Rho.
Senior Police Officer 3 Marcel Quevedo, chief investigator of Barili police station, said police called Salinas' attention Tuesday morning after receiving reports of fraternity recruitment in the village.
Quevedo said Salinas confronted and accused Mendoza of reporting him to the police.
The chief investigator said the confrontation resulted into a heated argument. Salinas reportedly threatened to kill the tanod.
Mendoza, who was bothered by the threat, went to the victim's house and shot him, resulting to his instantaneous death.
Police recovered three slugs of a .38 revolver firearm from the crime scene.
The barangay captain turned Mendoza over to the policemen. The tanod is now detained at the police station pending the filing of murder charges against him.
