Frat answers call for blood donation
The Alpha Sigma Phi Phils., initiated a nationwide bloodletting activity last Saturday, December 2 in response to the call of the Philippine Red Cross for more blood donation.
The bloodletting activity, which served as kick-off activity for the fraternity’s 172nd International Founder’s Day on December 6, was held simultaneously in five major cities: Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Cotabato, Davao, Bulacan, and Cebu.
In Cebu, the activity dubbed as “Hazing Kills! Save Life, Give Blood,” was held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the fourth level of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Camelo Antonio Tompar, the group’s national president, said that this is their sixth year in holding the bloodletting program. A total of 58 units of blood was collected in last Saturday's blood drive. "I would like to thank the Philippine Red Cross, Robinsons Galleria, sponsors and blood donors who supported and joined the activity,” said Tompar.
He said that the campaign started with the fraternity’s anti-hazing advocacy.
“Hazing kills people. Save life by donating blood,” he said. Apart from campaigning for blood donations, Tompar said that his group also supports the program of the government to solve the illegal drug problem. They are particularly campaigning to stop the use of illegal drugs in colleges and universities through information dissemination.
Aside from these advocacies, the Alphans also have a scholarship program for poor but deserving students.
