- — Iris Mariani B. Algabre/

The Talisay City government will purchase an early warning device (EWD) which will be installed in the Mananga River to warn residents nearby in case its water level rises.

City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Head Alvin Santillana targets to purchase the equipment worth P4 million by the first quarter of the year.

The EWD includes a censor that will detect the level of water along the river, a closed-circuit television(CCTV) to monitor the physical situation of the river and a siren that will warn constituents that water level is rising.

Once the water reaches on a set critical level, the siren will be heard to inform residents that they need to evacuate.

The CCTV controls will be located at the newly inaugurated two-storey building Multi-Purpose Command Center donated by Aboitiz Foundation.

Earlier, Mayor Eduardo Gullas has requested a list of equipment needed to enable the operations of the command center.

He revealed that part of the supplemental budget that was approved during special session last week worth P8.4 million will be used to purchase the equipment.

Gullas also said there is also an appropriation in the city's approved P1.8 billion annual budget next year for the purchase of more equipment.

The city also plans to procure a device will detect storm surge which is worth P4 million.
